GOSHEN, Ind. (WSBT) — A new Goshen Health initiative wants to expand access to healthy food in vulnerable communities.
Goshen Health will offer mobile garden sites throughout Elkhart and Kosciusko Counties.
A state grant allowed Goshen Health to provide pots, soil, plants and other tools at 17 different community garden sites.
Officials say the gardens will benefit neighborhoods where fresh, healthy food is not always available.
Goshen Health Community Engagement Manager Stacy Bowers said, “We are working with communities that don’t have access to traditional ways of gardening. They may not have their own yard, they may not have their own place to do that. But we wanted to be able to take these gardens into those communities to increase access to fresh foods.”
Goshen Health officials expect the gardens to benefit nearly 400 community members this summer.
