Former Sky News presenter Kay Burley looks flawless at 64 and has been open about getting cosmetic surgery and following a strict diet. The Standard revealed that she sticks to two foods during work days: a banana and a cereal bar for breakfast and lunch. Kay explained, “The danger of doing a breakfast show is there are so many opportunities to eat.”
She also has yoghurt, three “pint mugs” of Earl Grey tea “because I’m northern” and a Berroca tablet with water. When she found out Sky News was moving to a glass box set, she also set out to cut sugar and lost 20lb. She also sometimes treats herself to a hot chocolate at 3:30pm.
A more detailed look at her dietary approach has also seen Kay embark on a 10-day fast. When she’s back to her normal routine, she cuts out ultra-processed foods and regularly takes ginger and turmeric shots to boost her immunity and improve her digestion.
She sparked concern among fans when she announced that she would embark on a 10-day fasting plan. After explaining that she’d seen a doctor in August 2023, the broadcaster said she’d been given ‘fasting minerals’ that she would need to take three times a day.
Taking to Instagram, she captioned her post, “If you’ve ever wanted to try a fasting programme but were anxious about the challenge, then let me do it for you. Will the challenge be too much? How many calories am I actually allowed? What happens when I’m so hungry I can’t think properly? I will be honest in my journey, and perhaps it will inspire you to do the same. Check out my story and let me know what you think.”
Kay has also said that she wouldn’t say no to having more plastic surgery. When she appeared on Countdown in 2021, Kay defended her decision to undergo surgery in 2011 and was awkwardly quizzed by Anne Robinson about her reasons having the procedure. Responding to the host, Kay joked: “Well, I didn’t want to get mugged off by mother nature. My mother was dead when she was my age. I wanted to live my life as long as I could. I like looking good, and it brought me a bit more time.”
She said about the experience: “It actually isn’t a very painful experience. It’s just a traumatic experience because obviously I get paid for what I look like to a certain extent, and it’s a bit of a risk, but thankfully – and hopefully – it paid off.” She then explained that her lower facelift targeted her neck and jawline areas.
She continued: “It’s a bit like an Essex facelift where you pull your hair up behind and see what you look like.” The results usually last around 10 years and the procedure is performed under general anaesthetic, roughly taking one to two hours to complete.
