Joe Burrow started a new diet for the upcoming season

Cincinnati Bengals fans could celebrate last Monday when the team posted a video of Joe Burrow back in the building throwing footballs again.

Burrow suffered a season-ending wrist injury last year and has been working to get back to full health since his surgery.

Burrow has been vocal about a new approach to his health this upcoming season to prevent injury and prevent re-aggravating previous injuries.

“We’re bigger. Definitely bigger. We’ll see where I’m at at the end of the offseason. I feel good about where my body is right now. I’m going to continue to get stronger and bigger throughout the offseason and just play it by ear, depending on how I feel. Like I said, I’m in a good spot right now. I’m really strong, bigger than I was. We’re going to continue to eat right, lift and go through my routine and see where I’m at,” Burrow stated earlier this week.

One way he has worked to change his health has been a new diet, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.

Joey Boese, Cincinnati’s strength coach, says the new diet is important to Burrow and he is never surprised to see the Bengals QB working on something new, ““He’s always working on something. That’s what makes him different. Always working on his craft. Best I’ve ever seen as far as being dialed into his preparation,” according to Hobson.

Boese hit on the importance of Burrow’s diet, “Nutrition is a humungous part of it. Recovery. Muscle mass. Body composition. You name it. Nutrition is a big part of maintaining the same weight during the season that you had coming into training camp. It’s a hard thing to do,” according to Hobson.

When discussing the specifics of Burrow’s new diet Dak Notestine, director of Black Sheep Performance, hit on in depth, “We wanted things that didn’t have him too full … That he wasn’t filling up too much on veggies first and missing out on the things of high caloric value and the things he needed to repair and restore. Just organizing things a little better. Having a better overall plan for what a week entails and what he needs calorically. It’s not simply, ‘Here’s a plate, just re-create this.”

It is clear that Burrow is coming into the new season with a new mentality to help the longevity of his career, which is a huge piece to the success of the Bengals’ future (obviously).

This sure feels like one of the biggest seasons in Bengals history, and Burrow is ready to get it going.
