Diet Coke announces major change which bosses say makes ‘perfect sense’

There’s nothing we love more than a cold drink on a hot day – and for fans of a Diet Coke break it’s about to get even better.

Thirsty customers are in for a treat as the brand has announced a change which they say makes ‘perfect sense’. 

Lovers of the iconic beverage in the UK will soon be hunting through chiller fridges in shops, as the brand is introducing personalised cans and bottles.

Diet Coke Breaks by You will see their products emblazoned with over 150 different names, and you’ll be able to find them up and down the country.

Adding to the trademark Diet Coke logo, the limited edition versions of the well-known silver cans now read ‘Diet Coke Break by [name]’.  

The new move is reminiscent of the iconic Share A Coke campaign which swapped the brand name for customers’ names. The now iconic packaging actually began a staggering 13 years ago in 2011, and was first rolled out in Australia.

Diet Coke are no stranger to smart advertising strategies. Who can forget the Diet Coke Break ads, which feature a handsome guy, sound tracked to I Just Want to Make Love to You.

Although many names are on offer, for those who can’t find their name, Diet Coke is giving you the chance to win one of 4,000 bespoke cans. 

To enter, fans simply have to buy a bottle or can of Diet Coke, scan the QR code and enter via the Coca-Cola App.

Everyone who buys a personalised Diet Coke will also be automatically entered into a weekly draw. Prizes up for grabs include spa days, swanky hotel stays and shopping sprees worth up to £5,000.  

Senior marketing director for Diet Coke, Louise Maugest, said ‘We know how much our fans love a Diet Coke break taking time for themselves in the midst of their busy lives, so it made perfect sense for us to make that time even more special.

‘We’re so excited to be bringing personalised cans to our fans this summer and we’d love to hear from them when they spot theirs in store by tagging @DietCokeGB.’

To celebrate the launch Diet Coke will be hitting the road and offering fans in London and Manchester a unique experience. The Diet Coke Breaks By You airstream trailer events will take place across July and August and will feature the chance to get special Diet Coke-themed manicures.

Vistors can relax with an ice-cold Diet Coke in the airstream relaxation zone or adorn their nails with their initials in the classic Diet Coke font. They will also all walk away with their own personalised can.

The Diet Coke Break By You Airstream will be popping up at the following locations. You can book nail appointments via the Coca-Cola app on the following dates and times:

  • Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 – Malaysia Square, Battersea Power Station, London
  • Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4 – The Trafford Centre, Manchester

The special cans will be on sale until September, so be quick to grab yours.
