It used to be pizza and steak shops dominated the landscape. Now, a healthy alternative is taking over and it’s called Playa Bowls (pronounced ply-a). It’s located on the 2600 block of Street Road, near the dollar store.
This is a resort themed eatery that serves bowls of fruits, grain ( think Granola ), and Acai. The walls have painted palm trees and makes you yearn for summer, regardless of the temperature outside. It is modeled after a beach bar that you might find in Florida or elsewhere,where it is warm.
According to co owner Michael Bergan, the company is New Jersey based and started with a fruit stand. It has now expanded to several brick and mortar stores . They have locations in Fairless Hills, which is doing fantastic and just opened their Bensalem location this weekend.
For Saturday, they advertised that the first 75 people would get a free bowl and t shirt. The line exceeded 75 people , in fact it stretched around the corner. No one seemed to mind that they had to pay, they just wanted to get in and get a bowl. According to Bergen, they can also customize a bowl for someone with dietary restrictions.
The company is community based and will give discounts to military members and first responders, with ID.
