Ruth Jones, instantly recognisable from Gavin and Stacey, Stella, and Little Britain, has dazzled the public with her ongoing transformation. Fans have been left speechless as Ruth flaunts a svelte figure after losing an impressive four and a half stone and slimming down to a size 12.
The change was sparked by overindulging on a holiday and returning home in January 2010 with a renewed perspective. Ruth openly admitted, “I came back from holiday a couple of years ago – January 2010, and we all overdo it on holiday, don’t we? ” She shared how a sudden realisation hit her: “Something just clicked, I felt this is now or never, I wanted to make a positive change for me, and I haven’t looked back.” With the writing of Stella beckoning, she decided it was time to revamp her lifestyle.

Veering away from fad diets, Ruth chose the sensible route of managing portion sizes. Rather than adhering to a strict diet, Ruth, who will be making an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, 13 December, smartly focused on portion control. Keeping an eye on her caloric intake, she made sure her food consumption was less than what she burned off daily, reports the Express.
Celebrating her achievements, she expressed, “It’s taken me 22 months to lose four and a half stone. Although I have done loads of diets in my time I have never done it the old-fashioned way – taking in less calories than I was using.”
Ruth maintained a disciplined regimen, targeting a daily intake of 1,250 to 1,500 calories, which is well below the average 2,000 calories recommended for women, propelling her towards her weight loss victory.

Her weight loss journey was a slow and steady one, focusing on sustainable lifestyle changes rather than quick fixes. She highlighted the unrealistic promises made by many diets, such as losing a stone in a week, and instead stressed the importance of patience and persistence.
By maintaining a calorie deficit, Ruth managed to slim down and keep up her healthy lifestyle. According to NHS guidelines, women should consume 2,000 calories per day and men 2,500, although individual needs may vary based on factors like size, genetics, and lifestyle.
Ruth shared: “Some days are better than others. But if you think about it, there’s calorie values on the back of everything – supermarket sandwiches, chocolate bars – everything.”
“The main thing is that I realised I was going to have to be patient. When diets promise you things like ‘lose a stone in a week’ it’s just not realistic. You have to make a decision that if you’ve got a few stones to lose (seven in my case! ) then it’s going to take time.”
Now, the star is preparing for her comeback on the much-loved Gavin and Stacey Christmas special. Gavin And Stacey first hit our screens from 2007 to 2010 and made a triumphant return in 2019 with a festive special that left us all on tenterhooks when Nessa proposed to James’ endearing character Neil ‘Smithy’ Smith. Ruth, who also plays Nessa, said that writing the script was a blend of “excitement, nostalgia and sadness.”
