Lawrence County Food As Medicine: A Healthy Food for Living Program | WBIW

a healthy diet is an eating plan that provides the body with the nutrients it needs. It is low in saturated and trans fats, added sugars and sodium. It includes a variety of vegetables and fruits (3 or more servings per day) as well as whole grains. It also contains lean meats, beans, nuts and seeds.

BEDFORD – Lawrence County Food As Medicine is a free program offered in Bedford that provides two weekly meal kits and teaches nutrition basics on how to prepare simple dishes, physical activity, and budgeting.

In partnership with Lost River Market & Deli and IU Center for Rural Engagement, Purdue Extension-Lawrence County will offer a one-hour, 6-week program on Mondays at 5:30 p.m. from June 19 to July 24 featuring free weekly meal kits and an incentive prize for completion of 4 of the 6 weeks of the program.

Lawrence County Food As Medicine will take place at the Hamilton Courts Community Building, 2419 Ludlow Drive, Bedford. Participants will pick up their meal kits at class meetings. They will contain the ingredients and recipes for two meals that will serve a family of four.
